Enoughness is Delicious
The abundance mindset gets touted as the opposite of scarcity. Instead of living in scarcity, the line of thinking goes, live in abundance. And this sounds lovely. But the meaning of abundance, "more than enough" or "plenty to go around," has gotten supersized itself. The quest for more -- more money, more stuff, more options, more of everything -- seems to be making up for scarcity and lack.
Culturally, we live in constant not-enoughness. We don't have enough money. We don't have enough time. We don't get enough sleep. We don't have enough close relationships. We don't eat enough protein. Not-enough has become a normal way of being.
In the midst of this scarcity, "enough" feels like settling, or sort of meh when compared to the big huge thing we're supposed to be chasing.
I want Enoughness to be the new normal. Enough isn't a midway point between scarcity and abundance. It's not a number that makes you feel okay. Instead, it's a state of being that says, "I have enough. I am enough. I have the ability to create. I have my resourcefulness." Enoughness is the antidote to scarcity and graspy abundance (which isn't really abundance anyway).
I talked to a client about Enoughness. He agreed that the stress of trying to acquire and manage "more" gets exhausting and stressful, and said, "Enoughness sounds delicious."
Aspiring to have more money or nice things or success from a place of Enoughness -- now that is different from achieving to fill a void.
You are enough. At this very moment, you have enough. You have the ability to create. You have your resourcefulness.
